Woodacres Farm

A month or so ago I received a newsletter about the proposed development of a Golf Estate on the Woodacres farm and surrounding area. I'd always wanted to photograph there, but it was only until I heard that the farm stood deserted, that I decided to record the farm in photos.

It is a beautiful piece of ground with wonderful views of the Perdeberg and surrounds. The main house called 'Rose Cottage' is built from stone, and I can imagine how beautiful it must have been with a garden, and children running around.

Now it is just a shellof it'sformer glory, with very little left of the interior. The scavengers had done an excellent job at bringing the place to it's architectural knees.

The old Stone Tannery

Situated against the hills above Kliprivier Road, I found the ruins of what I believe to be; either a Tannery or Abattoir of sorts.

On the way.

Into the Mountains

Starting with the photo 'Into the Mountains' I'm doing a series depicting a typical Sunday trip of mine. A trip which might start with a conversation in a pub, whereby a local might tell me of an interesting place he knows of, or a place I find on Google Earth which looks interesting.
I live in the country about 40km's south of Johannesburg, and by luck it is a very interesting place with regards to History and folklore. Our total district is very large in square kilometers, so I could sniff around for many a year to come and still not have covered all the places I wish to.
So bear with me as I take you on this first journey of many, to try and find the Old Stone Tannery.

In the footsteps of our forefathers

B and I spent the long weekend on a drive around the Northern Cape, visiting the sites of the Anglo-Boer war. Our families played a large part in the second war for independence, especially in this area, and the names of our families are displayed on almost every memorial.
It was a moving experience, especially the memorial and museum to the women and children who died in the concentration camps.
